The Silver Eagle is a key form race to follow into the $10 million Golden Eagle each spring.
The Silver Eagle is a recently created race for four-year-old horses to run at Royal Randwick in October over the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. It was one of Australia’s first feature races solely for four-year-old gallopers.

Now offering $1 million in prize money after stakes were doubled ahead of the 2022 edition the Silver Eagle is part of the bumper list of new Special Condition Sydney races running from late September – early November over The Everest Carnival.
The Silver Eagle now runs on The Everest Day in mid-October. Racing on the card is headlined by the world’s richest turf race – the $20 million The Everest (1200m). Other feature Randwick races taking place that day include the $2 million The Kosciuszko (1200) and the Group 1 $5 million King Charles III Stakes (1600m) which replaces the George Main Stakes from 2023.
Contested over 1300m the million-dollar showdown is a set weights plus conditions event and is tied in with the lucrative $10 million The Golden Eagle (1500m) – the spring’s richest race for four-year-olds. Racing NSW added the Silver Eagle and Golden Eagle races to keep the country’s top colts racing on in Australia for their four-year-old season instead of being retired to stud as three-year-olds.
The Silver Eagle follows in the tradition of the feature 2YO and 3YO races in Sydney – the Golden Slipper and Golden Rose – which both have similar official lead-up races with the Silver Slipper and Run To The Rose respectively.
A Golden Eagle ballot exemption is on offer to the first three horses over the line in the Silver Eagle results making the Silver Eagle – Golden Eagle race double a new punt to try in the spring.
The latest edition of the Silver Eagle ran on Saturday October 14, 2023 on The Everest Day as the key lead-up to the $10 million Golden Eagle race and was won in a stylish upset by the Waller-trained mare Vienna Princess ($15).

Silver Eagle Tips
Top Silver Eagle betting tips include looking for the in-form four-year-olds with winning form over at least 1200m, any graduates out of earlier Group 2 / 1 events in Sydney during the spring and those dominant gallopers in the frame for the $10 million Golden Eagle three weeks later.
2023 Silver Eagle Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ insider Silver Eagle 2023 race tips will be provided below the week of the race so stay tuned for the top four-year-olds to back this season.
- To Win: #5 Yellow Brick ($3.80 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Stellar edition of the million-dollar Silver Eagle and Yellow Brick looks a huge hope to finally shrug that place-getter status. The talented The Mission four-year-old from Toowoomba has put his trainers Tony & Maddysen Sears on the map with a host of impressive if not frustratingly runs. Was runner-up in the summer’s $2 million Magic Millions Guineas at the Gold Coast, won the Group 3 GC Guineas fresh at the Sunshine Coast in May and has placed second in his subsequent three starts including a devastatingly close effort behind Rediener in the Group 3 Gunsynd at Eagle Farm in June. That form has been franked with the winner taking out the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) a couple of weeks back. Yellow Brick meanwhile ran second fresh in the Listed Weetwood Handicap at his home track with 58kg. He went down a nostril flare as the beaten odds-on fancy and gets the chance to atone heading to the big city now. Barrier five, comes back a little in weight and Craig Williams in the saddle is a big plus.

Using the Silver Eagle form guide to uncover the value in the market is crucial and the Silver Eagle form is expected to stack-up later in the spring in The Golden Eagle held over 200m further at sister track Rosehill.
The 2021 Silver Eagle form was franked with the third placed Count De Rupee running second next-up in the Golden Eagle results before his $1 million The Gong (1600m) win at Kembla Grange.
In 2022 the Silver Eagle winner Vilana went on to take out that year’s $1 million The Hunter (1300m) at Newcastle.
