John O’Shea & Tom Charlton’s Super Seth four-year-old Linebacker ($3.10F) overcame a campaign setback that saw him miss a shot at the Group 1 King Charles III Stakes to win an easier assignment when blitzing his rivals in the 2025 Silver Eagle results with a powerhouse 2.36 length romp home for favourite backers. Overcoming a wide run throughout, he surged to victory in slick time to subsequently firm in from $11 to $6 to win the $10 million Golden Eagle on November 1.

Silver Eagle Tips
Top Silver Eagle betting tips include looking for the in-form four-year-olds with winning form over at least 1200m, any graduates out of earlier Group 2 / 1 events in Sydney during the spring and those dominant gallopers in the frame for the $10 million Golden Eagle three weeks later.
2025 Silver Eagle Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ insider Silver Eagle 2025 race tips will be provided below the week of the race so stay tuned for the top four-year-olds to back this season.
To Win: No. 11 Gerringong
GERRINGONG (1) looks a genuine value improver in this year’s Silver Eagle, with the Waterhouse/Bott-trained Blue Point mare putting together a tidy record this prep. She’s yet to race at Randwick and hasn’t won beyond 1100m, but from gate one she’s drawn to get some cheap early sectionals, which gives her every chance to stretch out to 1300m. She’s been ultra-consistent without breaking through, including a strong fresh run when fourth in the Cockram Stakes behind Magic Time — who lines up in The Everest this weekend. That was followed by a solid Black-Type fourth at Flemington behind Café Millenium, and her latest was arguably her best yet, finishing runner-up in the Group 2 Golden Pendant. Tim Clark sticks, she drops in weight, and I think she’ll go back and finish strong. She might share a name with a laid-back surf town, but she’s got the stride and attitude of a serious racehorse. If she wins here, the Golden Eagle beckons.

The Silver Eagle is a recently created race for four-year-old horses to run at Royal Randwick in October over the Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. It was one of Australia’s first feature races solely for four-year-old gallopers.

Now offering $1 million in prize money after stakes were doubled ahead of the 2022 edition the Silver Eagle was part of the bumper list of Special Condition Sydney races running from late September – early November over The Everest Carnival.
The race officially gained Group 3 status in 2024 the same year The Everest became a Group 1 event.
The Group 3 Silver Eagle now runs on The Everest Day in mid-October. Racing on the card is headlined by the world’s richest turf race – the now Group 1 $20 million The Everest (1200m).
Other feature Randwick races taking place that day include the $2 million The Kosciuszko (1200) and the Group 1 $5 million King Charles III Stakes (1600m) which replaced the George Main Stakes from 2023.
Contested over 1300m the million-dollar showdown is a set weights plus conditions event and is tied in with the lucrative $10 million The Golden Eagle (1500m) – the spring’s richest race for four-year-olds.
Racing NSW added the Silver Eagle and Golden Eagle races to keep the country’s top colts racing on in Australia for their four-year-old season instead of being retired to stud as three-year-olds.
The Silver Eagle follows in the tradition of the feature 2YO and 3YO races in Sydney – the Golden Slipper and Golden Rose – which both have similar official lead-up races with the Silver Slipper and Run To The Rose respectively.
A Golden Eagle ballot exemption is on offer to the first three horses over the line in the Silver Eagle results making the Silver Eagle – Golden Eagle race double a new punt to try in the spring.
