The Group 3 Toy Show Quality is a 1100m sprint showdown for horses at Royal Randwick Racecourse in August each Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. The race is a quality handicap event open only to fillies and mares, offers $250,000 in total prize money as of 2023, and was upgraded from a Listed race in 2013.

The event runs as one of the key support races on Winx Stakes Day, which is headlined by the Group 1 Winx Stakes – formerly the Warwick Stakes and also features the Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes as well as the Group 3 Show County Quality and Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2000m).
First run in 1995, the Toy Show Quality is named in honour of former champion filly Toy Show who won the 1975 Golden Slipper as a juvenile, the Thousand Guineas as a three-year-old as well as the 1976 Newmarket Handicap.
Plenty of top female gallopers have won the race including Red Tracer (2011) and Mizzy (2019).
The Toy Show Quality serves as a strong lead-up into upcoming spring features including the Group 2 Golden Pendant (1400m) held the following month and Mizzy (2019) was the last to do the double.
Any four-year-old mares that contest the Toy Show Quality may also have the lucrative $10 million Golden Eagle in their sights, a November feature at Rosehill that Mizzy ran third in as a 40/1 outsider following her 2019 Toy Show win.

Toy Show Quality Field
The Toy Show Quality race field attracts a quality line-up of nice female sprinters each season, many of which are kicking off their campaigns in an easier grade race.
The race is usually contested by previous Group 1 performers and potential Golden Pendant-bound fillies and mares and can serve as a credible lead-up into many other top spring races.
Runners out of the Toy Show Quality field may go on to contest other similar events for fillies and mares over the spring carnival including September’s Group 2 Sheraco Stakes (1200m), a double most recently achieved by Mizzy (2019).
Four-year-old mares could also be on the Silver Eagle – Golden Eagle path, races Mizzy (2019) finished third in after her Toy Show Quality success.

- Each Way: #7 Cigar Flick ($8 at time of publish) – BET NOW
The highly-spruiked AUTUMN GLOW (7) is odds-on for her return looking to remain undefeated but with a Heavy track I like the Each Way value of stablemate CIGAR FLICK (6) also lining up for Waller in the Toy Show. While it is hard to knock the top elect, the stable’s underrated Churchill five-year-old that I’m tipping for value also ticks plenty of boxes and boasts the fitness edge. She’s a proven mudlark (3:2-0-0) with a great strike rate at Randwick, and she comes in confident after a lead-up win in easier company. Won with 58kg here over 1100m last start and will be flying back to 53kg with conditions to suit this weekend. Genuine short-distance specialist, she’s drawn well and with blinkers on I expect her to be back but able to get through the going and make up ground when it counts.

The 2022 Toy Show Quality winner Zapateo franked the form winning a host of subsequent races before running third in both the Group 1 Robert Sangster and The Goodwood the next year.
In 2024 the Toy Show winner Kimochi continued onto Melbourne to win that year’s Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes.
