Estadio Mestalla ($61) caused a major upset in the 2025 Winter Stakes results at Rosehill on Saturday, leading all the way under Dylan Gibbons to win at $61 odds and deliver a career-best performance for trainer Joe Pride.
After two lacklustre runs to start the campaign, Pride added blinkers and sensed the gelding was back to his competitive self when he showed spark heading to the gates. Jumping from barrier 10, Estadio Mestalla quickly found the lead and controlled the race tempo, kicking strongly in the straight to hold off Robusto and stablemate Accredited.
The win was a huge result for the NSW Tycoons syndicate, who race the horse, and Pride confirmed the seven-year-old will likely return in two weeks for the Listed Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill, aiming to build on his resurgence and potentially qualify again for The Little Dance later in the year.

- To Win: #10 Thunderlips ($5 at time of publish)
Happy to stick with the in-form favourite THUNDERLIPS (7) in this weekend’s Winter Stakes with the Bjorn Baker trained Zoustar four-year-old chasing a hat-trick. The talented gelding won at Randwick with 59.5kg two back in a BM78 before a last start victory here at Rosehill with 59kg over 1500m on June 28. On the quick back-up so is fit and firing on all cylinders. Winning form at the track now and back slightly in distance to 1400m which he has a nice record over (8:3-1-2). Midfield gate is favourable and back to 54kg giving him every chance for a Black-Type win to keep the victories going. Blinkers come on to help him sharpen-up. Likely to hit the lead and from the gate can go all-the-way.
