Three years after they were defeated in Super Bowl LIII by the New England Patriots, the Los Angeles Rams are out for redemption this season.
As they prepare to take on the Cincinnati Bengals for the franchise’s first Lombardi Trophy since the 1999 season under Dick Vermeil and with Kurt Warner at the helm, they will head into the game as favourites.
While they might have been designated as the nominal away team in Super Bowl LVI, this will be played on their home turf of SoFi Stadium, which could help them out once the game gets underway.

The Rams have plenty of star power on their team and it is not that hard to make a case for them to win Super Bowl LVI.
Working in their favour is the fact they can win games a number of different ways depending on what is presented to them, however you have to back a game that plays into their strengths.
Even if they do, you can’t discount a resilient and similarly versatile, albeit less experienced, Bengals team from keeping it close and for that reason, the Rams should be thinking they need at least 30 points to win the game.
Seven of the last nine champions have scored at least 28 points in the Super Bowl including the Buccaneers and Chiefs both putting up 31 in their victories in the last two title games.
If you like the Rams to win, taking them to score over their total points number is a good starting point.

There is a reason the Rams traded for Matthew Stafford last January and it was for this time of year, so you can expect Sean McVay to put the game in his hands.
For better or worse that means Stafford is going to have first chance to really go off in this game, while also having the chance to hand it to the Bengals if we see the “Bad Stafford” come through.
There were two patches this season where you had to wonder if he was going to pack it in but his resilience to bounce back and cut back on those errors suggests he has the makeup to handle a stage significantly bigger than anything he saw in Detroit.
If the Rams win he should have a big game and that should be the play, but there’s nothing wrong with having an insurance bet on two interceptions either.

The story of Cam Akers is a great one, tearing his Achilles six months ago and making it back to feature in the Rams postseason run.
However, I’ve got no interest in backing the story here, in four games back he has looked like a guy that has rushed back from a major injury and isn’t back to full strength.
He has averaged 0.6, 3.24, 2.00 and 3.68 yards per carry in each of those games and has maxed out at 55 yards which came against the Cardinals on Wild Card Weekend.
If they are going to see a big day from a running back it will come from Sony Michel, the player who scored the only touchdown of the Rams loss three years ago, when he was a New England Patriots player.
Michel’s production has been a bit up and down all year but he will get his snaps in passing downs and I love the value on offer there.

Cooper Kupp has been a man on a mission all season, setting all sorts of records as he has established himself as one of the best pass catchers in the league.
He has topped 100 receiving yards in 13 of 19 games this season, and scored a touchdown in 13 games as well.
When Stafford needs a play, he is the one he will go to, so bet accordingly.
Midseason acquisition Odell Beckham Jr took a while to get going with the Rams but has been a reliable option in the postseason for Stafford.
With his route running ability, don’t be at all surprised if he breaks a big catch and clears his longest catch number with ease.
For a long shot touchdown scorer bet, I like Van Jefferson, who had 50 catches and six touchdowns this season, and could break open as the third option on a play.

If you want to back either of the Rams defensive line stars to record a sack, you are going to pay a premium on their name value so it’s not worth taking the price on that.
Instead, you may want to back them to be shut out but that’s no fun.
To back a Rams defensive touchdown, you’re essentially taking the Bengals to have some sort of nervous meltdown and the playmakers to take full advantage of that.

There is a reason Stafford is such a short price to win Super Bowl MVP and it comes down to the fact the quarterback tends to get the accolade in victory.
Von Miller might have won it in Super Bowl 50, but to do so he needed to have a career day while Cam Newton had the worst game of his career and he upstaged what was left of Peyton Manning.
That is the level required for a defensive player but if anyone is going to do it, it will be Aaron Donald.
