Nine races will be run and won at Morphettville this Saturday.
Headlining the program is the Listed Lighting Stakes for the two and three year olds.
The rail will be in the true position and the track is currently rated a soft 7.
We’ve had a close look at all nine events on the card and our thoughts can be found below.
Crown Mint strips fitter for the three runs back and looks ready to peak stepping up to 2000m.
A son of Hallowed Crown, the gelding was very good second up over 1540m, weaving a path through and finding to the line well to claim third.
Last start over that same trip he was again finishing off strongly, giving the impressive he’s looking for further.
He has performed well over this track and trip and gets in nicely with the 2kg claim for Alana Livsey.
1 unit – CROWN MINT
Sachem has been doing his best work late in recent runs and looks ideally placed up to the mile.
Over 1400m last start, the five year old was shuffled a long way back and let down strongly in the straight to claim fourth, beaten less than a length.
Whilst is has been a long time between drinks for the son of Street Boss, he looks to have settled in nicely since joining the Will Clarken and Niki O’Shea yard in April and gets a few things in his favour here.
Jamie Kah goes aboard and she’s sure to afford him every chance from barrier four.
1 unit – SACHEM
Quite The Lass hasn’t been far away in two runs back from a break and looks well placed with the rise in trip.
She was doing her best work late over 1425m first up and was the eye catcher last time after charging home from the tail on the Sandown Lakeside.
Prepared at Mornington by David Brideoake and Matt Jenkins, the mare has yet to compete at the 1800m journey but was placed at her only run over 2000m last preparation and the way she found the line last start certainly suggests it will suit.
Beau Mertens will do the steering and gate six can see her settle within striking distance.
1 unit – QUITE THE LASS
Chambers Bay has been racing well and drops back in grade.
He recorded a dominant win in heavy conditions two runs back but failed to run out a strong 1700m last time.
Poised to strike at the top of the straight, he just wanted to lay in over the final part.
Back to 1500m looks ideal and he should find this easier.
1 unit – CHAMBERS BAY
Favourite Child is airborne this preparation and looks well placed to make it five straight wins.
A recent addition to the Clarken / O’Shea yard, the daughter of Dundeel was given a six week freshen up in late Autumn and has since worked through her grades with ease.
She’s two from two over the mile and whilst she does rise slightly in grade, she gets in beautifully carrying 55kgs after the claim for Rochelle Milnes.
2 units – FAVOURITE CHILD
Boognish returns to the races.
The talented mare was sent for a well deserved break after securing her first black type victory when taking out the Group 3 Proud Miss Stakes back in May.
A consistent galloper, she’s put together a tidy record in her twelve career starts and the form around her is solid.
She does race particularly well fresh and comes here off the one public trial where she wasn’t asked to do a lot.
Jamie Kah has partnered her in two of her three successes and she’ll again do the steering.
1 unit – BOOGNISH
A Samurai Mind looks a smart horse on the rise and will be better suited here out to the mile.
Kicking off over the 1100m at Murray Bridge, the Shamus Award gelding blew the start and from there was never in contention.
Only lightly raced, he won on debut over 1200m before a solid effort out to the mile at Listed level at his second outing
With improvement from that first up run, he’s sure to make his presence felt here.
1 unit – A SAMURAI MIND
Kuroyanagi returns to the races.
The Written Tycoon filly has only had the three race starts and in doing so has already put together a very tidy CV.
A decisive winner on debut at Gawler, she went on contest the Blue Diamond Preview where she was beaten by the barest of margins.
She put in a superb effort to finish third in the Group One Blue Diamond Stakes before a well-deserved break.
She comes here off a recent 1050m trial against open company gallopers and in a positive push, Jamie Kah has made the trip from Melbourne to partner the filly.
1 unit – KUROYANAGI
Kalasec hasn’t had things go his way his preparation.
After a slow start the Brave Smash three year old found himself back at the tail over 1000m on the Parks track and was charging home late.
Last start he ran into dead ends in the straight but finished off nicely into third once clear.
With the three runs under his belt, he comes here hard fit and should find this easier than what he’s been contesting.
Jake Toeroek knows him well and retains the mount for Richard and Chantelle Jolly.
