UFC Fight Night: Edwards v Brady Preview

UFC Fight Night: Edwards v Brady Preview

London, England will host the UFC this weekend with a Welterweight headline fight between former champion Leon Edwards and number five ranked Sean Brady.

Jack Della was originally booked to fight the local Englishman, but he has been rescheduled in a title fight with Belal Muhammad.

Another ANZ fighter, Carlos Ulberg, will take on former champion Jan Blachowicz in the co main event which takes place early on Sunday morning in what is set to be a cracking card of fights.

Our thoughts and UFC best bets can be found below.

Leon Edwards vs Sean Brady

Edwards made his UFC debut back in 2014 and after losing two of his first four fights inside the octagon, put together an unbeaten streak of 13 fights.

He won the Welterweight belt with an unforgettable fifth round head kick against Kamaru Usman in 2022, defended his title for the first time in a rematch and then a second time by beating Colby Covington.

The local fighter lost for just the fourth time in professional MMA career in Manchester last year against Belal Muhammad but a win will take him a step closer to holding UFC gold yet again.

Sean Brady steps in on short notice to take this fight and he has every right to be confident in his ability.

He has just the one loss on his 18 fight pro MMA resume and that came at the hands of the champion Belal Muhammad back in 2022.

Bouncing back from that loss he has now put together back to back wins against Kelvin Gastelum by submission, and Gilbert Burns via unanimous decision.

A raucous crowd in London will witness two very well rounded fighters that are both capable of ending the fight at any given stage.

While both men are experienced campaigners, I’m giving the edge to Edwards in the striking department and his ability to keep the pace for the full five rounds.

Jan Blachowicz vs Carlos Ulberg

It has been an exciting and fairly quick rise in the UFC for Citi Kickboxing alumni Carlos Ulberg who has just one loss in his pro MMA career in 12 fights.

Six of his seven knockout wins have been in the first round and he comes into this event off the back of an impressive decision win over Volkan Oezdemir in China late last year.

Jan Blachowicz enters the octagon at 42 years of age this weekend in his 41st pro MMA fight.

He won the vacant Light Heavyweight title in 2020 and defended it for the first time when Israel Adesanya moved up a division a year later.

The Polish fighter has just one win from his last four fights but one of those was a draw against the now champion Magomed Ankalaev and a split decision loss to Alex Pereira.

It is for this reason, and the juicy head to head price, that I have gone in this direction.

Kevin Holland vs Gunnar Nelson

Didn’t we just see Kevin Holland fight?

That’s not the first time fight fans have thought that and yes, we saw Holland at UFC 311 in California just eight weeks ago.

In fact, this is his 20th fight in the last five years.

I’m unwilling to say that being the most active fighter on the entire roster is a bad thing, but I will give you the stats.

He has three wins in his last fights inside the octagon.

Gunnar Nelson is a legend of European mixed martial arts and is a regular on these cards when they come to this part of the world.

The now 36 year old is an expert in BJJ and 13 of his 19 career wins have come via submission which poses a big threat to any opponent he faces.

In saying that, Holland possesses such an awkward style with his length and ability to strike with all parts of his body.

This is a competitive contest, but I believe the odds should be switched.
