Buffalo is third up and ready to break his maiden.
The Written By gelding is yet to place in two runs back from a break, but he’s been far from disgraced in the Silver Slipper and the Todman Stakes.
This is obviously a huge drop in class and I thought the $2.20 about him at publish was still an excellent bet.

No. 3 Bluebird Bay
Bluebird Bay is second up and beautifully placed today at Newcastle, in my opinion.
After filling the minors on debut back in September, Bluebird Bay enjoyed big improvement into an impressive maiden win, while he returned to action to finish on the placegetters’ heels here earlier this.
We know he’s a horse that will improve with that run under his belt, and he can continue his rise through the grades today.

No. 1 Northern Eyes
I’m keen to stick with Northern Eyes at huge odds ($31 at publish) second up in this afternoon’s Provincial Championship Qualifier at Newcastle.
Northern Eyes knocked up in a similar race here fresh from a spell, but he’s a horse that tends to enjoy sharp improvement with a run under his belt.
I think he’s up to something of this quality and he’s drawn to receive a lovely run today under Jay Ford.

No. 2 Threatening
Threatening looks well placed in the last at Newcastle.
The Shamus Award gelding has only won one of nine races since debuting, but he’s placed a further seven times and found form around some handy opposition.
Any improvement on his fresh effort for second at Warwick Farm would see him extremely difficult to beat today.
