Oli Cownie previews Tuesday’s Albion Park harness meeting, delivering his trademark deep-dive into the form with sharp analysis and punter-focused insight.
MATT DAN (1) comes from the powerful stable of Emma Stewart having trialled up well in Victoria. His latest trial he finished 2.8 metres off stablemate Kahula who has so far performed well in her career.
FIT AND READY (2) bumped into Havtimemajor on debut when sitting without cover and running a good second. She then ran a good third behind Hes A Dancer having raced close to the speed off the pegs. She should secure the right type of run in this race.
WALK WITH ELEGANCE (5) trialled up smartly when getting shuffled back early before running through the line powerfully to finish second behind Red And Rich. She is likely to have derived benefit from that outing and may be suited by the small field in this race.
HARRY THE HAT (4) ran on well into second behind Hes A Dancer in a race they rated very fast time for the 2YOs. He is likely to have derived benefit from recent outings and should run well again.
SELECTIONS: MATT DAN (1), FIT AND READY (2), WALK WITH ELEGANCE (5), HARRY THE HAT (4)
SUGGESTED BET: WALK WITH ELEGANCE (5) each way.
| 5. Walk With Elegance (5) J: Brendan Barnes T: Gemma Hewitt | |||
| Two-year-old filly by Poster Boy out of Walking On Air having her first start. Finished second at Albion Park in a trial on June 11 over 1660m. | |||
NELLIE JOY (8) showed good gate speed last start and was able to zip across and find the front scoring a dominant win. She draws the back row this time but has seemingly had the measure of horses racing in this company a number of times and may just prove a touch too good again.
CALL ME TROUBLE (7) was well driven last start to secure a great run close to the speed before finishing it off well behind Southern Diamond. This looks a considerable drop in grade off his latest outing but he does have a poor draw to navigate.
IZARRA (2) may have the gate speed to drive through and lead before having options from there. She was able to obtain the leaders back trail on Nellie Joy last start and was able to finish second to her.
KODA DA MODA (5) ran on well late once into the clear in a race taken out by Nellie Joy. She is rarely too far away and has some versatility in races of this nature.
SELECTIONS: NELLIE JOY (8), CALL ME TROUBLE (7), IZARRA (2), KODA DA MODA (5)
SUGGESTED BET: NELLIE JOY (8) to win.
| 8. Nellie Joy (1) J: Nathan Dawson 45281T: Graham Dwyer | |||
| Last start won by 9 m as favourite when quickly away, (Fr4) at this track (1:59.10) beating Izarra in 3yo+ on June 23 at $2.20. | |||
ENOLA (2) missed a start in the South East Oaks on Saturday having not gained a run as emergency for the race. She was good in her latest start over the mile at Newcastle when setting a strong tempo throughout and just being run down by Radiant Amber late. If she can lead and control things in this race she should be hard to beat.
SASSABA (3) has been excellent this time in putting in a number of great runs against talented opposition. Two starts ago he took a trail on Aardies A Star and was running him down late finishing just a short half head away. His latest run was another good effort when not finishing far away from Bennydasook in second. He finds a suitable race and should run well again.
FIGHT FOR VICTORY (4) has been a long way short of his best since returning from a spell. His run last start when finishing fourth behind Fourty One Gee was a slight improvement on his runs prior. At his best he is a very smart, talented horse that would be extremely hard to beat in a race of this nature.
OPALLANE (6) sat close to the speed last time out and couldn’t reel them in late finishing fifth behind Fourty One Gee. He draws poorly in this race and will likely need a few things to go his way in the run.
SELECTIONS: ENOLA (2), SASSABA (3), FIGHT FOR VICTORY (4), OPALLANE (6)
SUGGESTED BET: ENOLA (2) to win.
| 2. Enola (2) J: Leonard Cain 44412T: Michael Stanley | |||
| Beaten favourite last start when second at Newcastle on June 26. Proved too good the start before at Newcastle on June 19. | |||
PROPELLED PRINCESS (3) appears very well handicapped in this race having run a great second placing last time out by Kyokushion Bear. If she can step safely she should find a prominent position and looks hard to beat in this race.
ICONIC IMAGE (6) scored a good win last start when beating Nonis Gold Class over the 1660 at this track. He faces a tougher test in this race coming off a handicap and will need a safe beginning to figure in the finish.
OURPETABILT (7) found the front last start and was too good for Cascata who was running on well in the concluding stages. She finds a suitable race but does face a significant handicap and will need things to go right for her in the run.
THE RED MENACE (2) hasn’t started for over 6 months and is having his first run for the stable of Matt Crone. He appeared to trot well recently in a Marburg trial and ran through the line nicely. With a favourable handicap advantage he has claims.
SELECTIONS: PROPELLED PRINCESS (3), ICONIC IMAGE (6), OURPETABILT (7), THE RED MENACE (2)
SUGGESTED BET: PROPELLED PRINCESS (3) to win.
| 3. Propelled Princess (3) J: Darren McCall x4342T: Darren Mccall | |||
| Last start 2nd (Fr1) over 2138m at this track beaten 7 m by Kyokushin Bear (2:40.10) in 3yo+ on June 25 at $23. Two runs back 4th (Fr1) over 2138m at this track, beaten 40 m by Raffie Jay (2:38.70) in 3yo+ on June 19 at $34. | |||
KIKI MEISTER (7) has strong NSW coming into this race having won nicely two starts ago when leading all the way at Newcastle. He has previously raced at this track and trip and was able to score a hat-trick of wins as a 2YO. He should be hard to beat again.
KASH FUND (3) led and scored a nice win three starts ago rating good time out in front. He draws outside of one of his main rivals Boulevard Bart but that horse did hand up in his latest win and ran poorly last start. If he can find the front he should be very hard to beat.
BOULEVARD BART (2) secured the perfect leaders back trip two starts ago at Wagga and was able to narrowly beat Ebony Karalta. He then started a short priced favourite last start and was left to do the work before finishing second last behind Dolly Rocket. He may be able to find the top early before having options from there.
CHERRIES ON TOP (5) secured a good run close to the speed two starts ago when scoring before getting shuffled back in a strong race and finishing it off well late. She is likely to get back and can be running on late.
SELECTIONS: KIKI MEISTER (7), KASH FUND (3), BOULEVARD BART (2), CHERRIES ON TOP (5)
SUGGESTED BET: KASH FUND (3) to win.
| 3. Kash Fund (3) J: Brendan Barnes 36124T: Gemma Hewitt | |||
| Not far away at the last couple starts; Finished 3 m fourth behind Red Bull Bernie at this track over 1660m 3yo last start. Before that was beaten 2.75 metres second at Redcliffe over 2280m same class on June 20. | |||
ONE CHAIN ROAD (1) has plenty of early speed and should be able to drive through and hold the lead before having options. He was forced to work hard early two starts ago before fading out of it late at Redcliffe. He has run well numerous times over the track and trip and should run well again.
GOODOLDBOYSANDBEER (6) showed good gate speed last start when leading before handing over to Warrawee Flyer and running third. He looks very well placed in this company but does come into the race first up.
POCKET BOOK (3) comes into this race fourth up from a spell and should be nearing peak fitness. She has run three consecutive third placings including last start when finishing third behind Ultimate Hunter.
JAY TEE TYRON (5) raced without cover last time out and battled on well for fifth behind Ultimate Hunter who had secured a good run on the pegs. He may be forced to do the work again but is likely nearing peak fitness.
SELECTIONS: ONE CHAIN ROAD (1), GOODOLDBOYSANDBEER (6), POCKET BOOK (3), JAY TEE TYRON (5)
SUGGESTED BET: ONE CHAIN ROAD (1) to win.
| 1. One Chain Road (1) J: Brendan Barnes 84476T: M J Nutley | |||
| Last start 6th (Fr7) over 1660m after showing early speed and racing wide at this track, beaten 9 m by Mini Mine Yet (2:00.10) in 3yo+ on June 23 at $26. Before that, 7th (Fr3) over 1780m after showing early pace at Redcliffe beaten 10 m by Dusty Muster (2:11.30) in 3yo+ on June 12 at $12. | |||
ASCOT SHOWTIME (4) scored a dominant win last start rating good time over this track and trip for this grade. She appears to draw a touch awkwardly in this race outside of two gate speed horses. She should run well again.
TAKE A CHANCE (3) has good gate speed and usually does his best work up on speed. He secured a good run last time out close to the speed and ran through the line nicely late for third in a race taken out by Taylors Four. He can press forward early and race up on speed.
LUKA DONCIC (9) was forced to race without cover last time out and battled on nicely there for second. He may be benefited by the step up to 2138 having run some of his best races at the track and trip.
BURNS BAY (2) elected to take a trail recently at this track and was able to run a good third behind Lochinvar Jewells. He then raced without cover last start and was too good for them. He steps up to the 2138 which isn’t usually his ideal journey but he should secure a good run and should run well again.
SELECTIONS: ASCOT SHOWTIME (4), TAKE A CHANCE (3), LUKA DONCIC (9), BURNS BAY (2)
SUGGESTED BET: TAKE A CHANCE (3) to win.
| 3. Take A Chance (2) J: Nathan Dawson 87303T: Jonah Hutchinson | |||
| Two back was well beaten into tenth after being driven well back, behind Ascot Showtime at this track over 2138m in a 3yo+ on June 23 at $41. Then a handy effort when beaten by 3 m finishing third behind Taylors Four at this track over 1660m in a 3yo+ on June 30 at $12. Rates highly. | |||
WORKS FOR ME (2) worked forward three starts ago and sat without cover in a race taken out by Reds Ablaze. She finds a race where she may be able to work forward and find the front and if she could she would likely be very ahrd to run down.
SHES CRYSTAL (8) ran a very unlucky fourth last start behind subsequent winner Maxo Mighty. She should get a good run through behind Stormtide in this race and with luck at the right time she should be running into it late.
MAJOR CRUNCH (7) was shuffled back last start at this track over the 1660 and ran on well late into the placings. He looks likely to be shuffled back again from a wide draw but he does appear to find a race which may generate a strong early tempo which should bring him right into calculations.
STORMTIDE (1) put in a really impressive effort four starts ago which was seemingly not far off his best which he hadn’t shown for quite some time. His latest effort was promising when fourth to Dolly Rocket and he draws well in this race over a track and trip he seems to race well at.
SELECTIONS: WORKS FOR ME (2), SHES CRYSTAL (8), MAJOR CRUNCH (7), STORMTIDE (1)
SUGGESTED BET: WORKS FOR ME (2) to win.
| 2. Works For Me Nz (2) J: Justin Reynolds 68457T: Chris Frisby | |||
| Last start 7th (Fr2) over 1660m at this track beaten 20 m by Hesitate (1:56.30) in 4yo+ on June 27 at $19. Before that, was well back in the run when 5th (Fr4) over 2040m at Redcliffe, beaten 4.5 m by Always Dancing (2:26.00) on June 20 at $23. | |||
MAHINDI (1) has good gate speed and should be able to drive through and lead this race in the early stages. She led last start and rated very fast time for her own personal mile rate when beaten by Hell Of A Hand. This race seems to have a touch less depth and she should be very hard to run down.
MISS FROUFROU (2) led last start at Redcliffe and was able to battle away well for second behind Aurora Joy. She has early speed and is likely to look for a prominent position in the early stages. She should be thereabouts.
QUEEN LILIBET (5) returns from a spell in this race and is stepping out first up for the stable of Trent Lethaby. She may be shuffled back from the wide draw and can be running into it late.
MY ULTIMATE FELIX (8) secured a suitable run off the speed last start and was able to run on well behind Dolly Rocket. He should secure a good run early if he can hold his position behind the likely leader Mahindi.
SELECTIONS: MAHINDI (1), MISS FROUFROU (2), QUEEN LILIBET (5), MY ULTIMATE FELIX (8)
SUGGESTED BET: MAHINDI (1) to win.
| 1. Mahindi Nz (1) J: Alanah Richardson 13242T: Colin Godden | |||
| Two back was well beaten into fourth behind Ohoka Dream at this track over 1660m in a 3yo+ on June 23 at $4.20. Then a handy effort when beaten by 2.75 m finishing second behind Hell Of A Hand at this track over 1660m in a 3yo+ on June 30 at $9. | |||
JILLIBYJACKSPARROW (4) has plenty of early speed and may be able to work forward and race in a prominent position in this race. He was able to lead three starts ago rating a quick personal mile rate finishing third. He has then raced without luck his past two outings getting back in stronger races including last start in a race taken out by Rising Sun runner Double Lou.
TINDER SURPRISE (6) did some early work last time out when finishing down the track behind Double Lou. He should be able to find a prominent position from the wide draw and looks to be dropping back a considerable way in grade.
HES NO ROMEO (9) was an impressive winner two starts ago at this track and distance when sitting close to the speed and sprinting up nicely late to score over O B Legal. He looks likely to secure a similar type of run and should be hard to hold out late.
OUR SUNSET DELIGHT (1) put in what was seemingly quite a poor run last time out leading as a heavily backed favourite and dropping out late to finish last. He did appear to get a touch keen in the run which may have contributed to the poor run. He could be better suited driven with a sit in this race.
SELECTIONS: JILLIBYJACKSPARROW (4), TINDER SURPRISE (6), HES NO ROMEO (9), OUR SUNSET DELIGHT (1)
SUGGESTED BET: JILLIBYJACKSPARROW (4) to win.
| 4. Jillibyjacksparrow (4) J: Will Rothwell 88369T: Jack Butler | |||
| Last start 9th (Fr2) over 1660m at this track beaten 18 m by Double Lou (1:54.40) in 4yo+ on June 27 at $41. Two runs back 6th (Sr1) over 2138m at this track, beaten 30 m by Minos (2:28.60) in 4yo+ on June 13 at $51. | |||
OUR VINCENT CAN GOGH (3) has gate speed and should be able to find a prominent position in this race from a good draw. He drew poorly last start outside the front row raced without luck and was still able to finish strongly to not be beaten far.
TARGARYEN (2) has generally been known in the later stages of his career for his strong closing speed in races but he does draw outside of a horse with very little gate speed in this race and may look to zip across and sit on something in this field. He got back last start and hit the line well in what became a dash home taken out by Sheez Sweet Louise.
COSMIC FLYER (1) has no gate speed at all usually which is often his undoing when drawing well. He was able to secure a great run off the speed last start and finished powerfully there into second behind Zeus Lightning. If he can settle close enough he can be running on late.
REDS ABLAZE (5) secured a good run off the speed two starts ago and was able to run over the top late scoring a dominant win over Calling Buddy. She then raced without luck last start when dragged out of the race by a tiring runner.
SELECTIONS: OUR VINCENT CAN GOGH (3), TARGARYEN (2), COSMIC FLYER (1), REDS ABLAZE (5)
SUGGESTED BET: OUR VINCENT CAN GOGH (3) to win.
