Eagle Farm Preview – Wednesday 15th July

Eagle Farm Preview – Wednesday 15th July

Wednesday’s Eagle Farm meeting gives punters an eight-race card to work through, with conditions looking ideal for a competitive day of racing. The track is rated a Soft 5, and with fine weather forecast in the lead-up, it looks likely to remain in that range by race day.

The key factor is the rail, which is out a massive 10.5m. That set-up should give on-pace runners every chance, particularly those who can land in the first few pairs and control their races.

With that in mind, let’s get into the Eagle Farm preview and try to find a few winners.

Race 1 – GALLOPERS SPORTS CLUB QTIS Two-Year-Old Colts and Geldings Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
No. 4 King Of The Road

KING OF THE ROAD (4) makes his debut for Gold Coast trainer Adam Campton and is no “man of means by no means” judging by the way he has trialled this preparation.

The Bivouac gelding has had three trials across two preparations but looks a more furnished horse this time in work.

He worked to the line well from the back in his first trial this preparation before easily putting his rivals away at Beaudesert.

Nick Heywood should give him a great run from barrier 3.

Eagle Farm R1 – Gallopers Sports Club 2YO C&G Mdn Plate
Open Race time:
4. King Of The Road (3)
J: Nick Heywood 58kg
T: Adam Campton
Two-year-old gelding (Bivouac – I Am Venus). Half-brother to seven-time winner Pride Of Venus. Dam was a winner of two races. Will no doubt benefit from the three trials prior to his debut today. Won a trial over 900m at Beaudesert on July 7. Keep a close eye on market moves.

Race 2 – MEKKA RACEDAY ON SALE NOW QTIS Two-Year-Old Fillies Maiden Plate (1000 METRES)
No. 10 Sarigan

SARIGAN (10) looks ready for a bold debut showing following two trials.

The Chris & Corey Munce-trained filly mustered speed quickly in her first trial at the Gold Coast before cruising to the line to finish a close second.

She demonstrated tremendous speed in her most recent piece of work when sitting outside the lead before dashing clear to salute by just under three lengths.

Ben Osmond, who claims 2kg, will drive forward from the good gate.

Filly by North Pacific on debut. Dam was a two-start maiden. Has looked handy in two trials leading into this. Won a Beaudesert trial over 900m on July 7. Respect any market confidence.

Race 3 – LADBROKES BLACKBOOK Class 3 Plate (1600 METRES)
No. 7 Margot’s Deel
Tip of The Day

MARGOT’S DEEL (7) is pitchforked into this Class 3 Plate under set weight conditions given her rating is 15 points higher than her next rivals.

The Jason Edwards-trained mare will appreciate the massive drop in class after solid recent efforts at black-type level including a 1.96 length fourth in the Listed Silk Stocking just three starts ago.

She looked super in a recent trial which will have tuned her nicely following a short let-up.

With just 55kg on her back courtesy of Leah Martyn’s claim, she should be hard to hold out if she’s within striking distance entering the straight.

Comes here off a 39-day let-up. Most recently 9th of 15 at this track Nat Clas Fm-Wfa on June 6 over 1600m, 3.5 len behind Surfin’ Bird carrying 57kg at $21. The race before that 7th of 14 at Doomben in the G3 F&M-Swp on May 23 over 1600m, on a slow track; 2.5 len behind Pinito carrying 55.5kg at $16. Tough to beat if near her best.

Race 4 – DRINKWISE Class 1 Handicap (1800 METRES)
No. 3 Cansort

CANSORT (3) will appreciate the drop in class and looks ready to breakthrough.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding was no match for Techna last start over this course and distance but worked home well to finish 4.42 lengths third.

Prior to that, she finished second over this distance at the Sunshine Coast and was beaten by just a head three starts ago in this class.

Blinkers go on for the first time which should see Jag Guthmann-Chester settle a touch closer and get his chance.

Before that made some head-way from midfield; 2nd of 12 at Sunshine Coast Bm60 on June 14 over 1800m, on rain affected going; 1.5 len behind Makamae with 59kg at $7.50. Genuine contender.

Race 5 – XXXX GOLD QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Plate (1400 METRES)
No. 13 Toobloos

TOOBLOOS (13) has raced well this preparation and looks close to a maiden win.

The Glenn Thornton-trained filly was stiff not to win first-up at the Gold Coast when held up entering the straight and then squeezed late to finish just over a half-length third.

She encountered bad luck again last start over 1200m here when held up on the fence in straight and forced to check off hooves before charging late to finish 2.65 lengths second.

She’ll strip fitter third-up and will appreciate the rise to this distance.

If FRANKLYIRESISTIBLE (16) gains a start, she’s worth a sneaky each-way or Place Extra bet given she showed something recently when leading a trial all the way to win by over three lengths.

Eagle Farm R5 – XXXX Gold 3YO Mdn Plate
Open Race time:
13. Toobloos (8)
J: Chelsea Baker 56kg
5×32T: Glenn Thornton
Third-up today. First-up 3rd of 11 at Gold Coast 3yo Mdn-Sw on June 13 over 1000m, in the wet; 0.6 len behind Over Spray with 56.5kg at $4.40. Second run from a spell made some head-way from midfield; 2nd of 11 at this track 3yo Mdn-Sw on July 1 over 1200m, on a slow track; 2.75 len behind Our Huntress with 56kg at $5.50. Fitter now and making headway. Hard to beat.
16. Franklyiresistible (1)
J: Olivia Kendal 56kg
09xT: Jason Edwards
Resuming after a five month break. Not seen since she finished last of 9 at Doomben 3yo Mdn February 11 over 1650m, soft track; 18 len behind Battuta carrying 58.5kg at $201. On debut second last of 11 at Doomben Mdn-Sw January 29 over 1200m, 8 len behind Capital Chord carrying 55kg at $81. Will be better for the run.

Race 6 – COUNTRY MUSIC RACEDAY ON SALE NOW BENCHMARK 78 Handicap (1000 METRES)
No. 7 Moulin Miss

MOULIN MISS (7) returns from a short let-up and looks ready to fire.

The Tony Gollan-trained mare comfortably led a recent trial from barrier to box and races well fresh having won two from five first-up races.

One of those wins came first-up last preparation over this course and distance where she saluted by just under three lengths.

She’ll carry just 54kg with Leah Martyn’s claim which should see her tough to run down.

The start before that set the pace for much of the race 2nd of 9 at this track Bm85 on April 25 over 1000m, on a slow track; head behind Give Giggles carrying 53.5kg at $2.50. Race 7 – XXXX GOLD BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1000 METRES)
No. 3 Dust Cloud

DUST CLOUD (3) broke her maiden status in emphatic fashion last start over 1300m here.

The Tony Gollan-trained gelding settled handy after being caught wide early before letting down powerfully to put his rivals away by 2.89 lengths.

He had put the writing on the wall two starts ago over 1300m at Doomben when finishing 2.33 lengths second after having an interrupted path.

He’s rock hard fit and maps to enjoy a great run for Ben Thompson in a race that looks limited for speed.

Open Race time:
3. Dust Cloud (5)
J: Ben Thompson 58.5kg

Most recently favourite; won by 3 len at this track Mdn July 1 over 1300m on a soft track defeating Edge Of Infinity with 59.5kg at $3.20. The start before that 2nd of 11 at Doomben Mdn-Sw on June 17 over 1350m, slow going 2.25 len behind Tinklejazz carrying 58kg at $5.50. Looks hard to beat again.

Race 8 – LADBROKES FAST PAYOUTS BENCHMARK 70 Handicap (1200 METRES)
No. 11 Meldubious

MELDUBIOUS (11) looks set for a good preparation following his narrow first-up loss at the Gold Coast.

The Annabel & Rob Archibald-trained gelding settled handy and hit the front in the straight but was swamped late to finish a nose second.

He’ll strip fitter second-up and won over this course and distance when kicking off last preparation.

From the good draw, Jag Guthmann-Chester should give his mount every chance.
