The Spieth mare from Mike Van Gestel’s yard hasn’t won since February at Randwick—where she beat home It’s A Knockout, Friday’s favourite—but she’s been ultra-competitive since. Her close second at 40/1 in the Group 2 Millie Fox and third in the Group 3 Dark Jewel Classic show she’s capable at this level. Last Saturday, she exceeded expectations again, finishing runner-up in the Group 2 Sheraco Stakes at big odds. Backing up quickly, she’s fit, only rises 1kg, and draws perfectly. With blinkers on and form peaking, she’s a genuine value play who can surprise.

The Tibbie Stakes is a Group 3 race for fillies and mares contested at Newcastle’s Broadmeadow Racecourse in mid-September each Sydney Spring Racing Carnival.
The 1400m showdown gained Black-Type status in 2005 and has held Group 3 status since 2013.
It takes place on Newcastle Gold Cup Day which is also host to the Group 3 $300,000 Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m) for spring cup-bound stayers and the Group 3 $250,000 Cameron Handicap (1500m) for Epsom Handicap hopefuls.
The Tibbie Stakes now offers $250,000 in prize money and is run at set weights plus penalties.
Four-year-old mares may also back-up out of the Tibbie Stakes and contest the now $10 million Golden Eagle (1500m) in October, an event the 2022 Tibbie Stakes winner Hope In Your Heart ran fourth in.
