Round 13 of the NBL features four games kicking off on Wednesday night and going through until Saturday when we are into 2016 already!
Melbourne United take on the Sydney Kings after upsetting the NBL leaders Perth Wildcats away from home on Sunday night, before two New Year’s Eve clashes headed by the second-ranked NZ Breakers taking on the Taipans in Cairns.
The round finishes up on Saturday night with the Kings and Taipans both playing their second of the week with Sydney at home but the underdogs in betting.

Sydney Kings vs Melbourne United

Melbourne United celebrated a crucial win over Perth in front of a sold-out 10,000 plus crowd on Sunday with guard Chris Goulding standout on the night scoring 27 points. They played like they did at the start of the season when stringing together nine straight wins and are favourites in betting for their Wednesday night clash against the Kings at Sydney Olympic Park. Sydney failed at home last week going down to New Zealand and the bottom-placed Kings will have a tough time stopping the on-fire United.
Cairns Taipans vs New Zealand Breakers

Cairns got a week off in Round 12 with the sixth-placed outfit returning on New Year’s Eve in a tough test against the second-ranked Breakers. New Zealand won by 10 points over the season’s worst, the Sydney Kings, last week thanks to a standout game by shooting guard Corey Webster and now make the trip up to Cairns for what should be another easy win. Dean Vickerman’s Breakers are eyeing three wins in a row on the road, shrugging off their horror one-from-five away stretch before that. They have the form, but Cairns always rise at home on New Year’s Eve so could be a bit of value there.
Townsville Crocodiles vs Illawarra Hawks

The seventh-ranked Townsville Crocodiles play at home in the other New Year’s Eve NBL game and need every advantage taking on the Hawks who are fourth in the standings and looking to stay in that position. Townsville got a week off around Christmas in Round 12 as did Illawarra, so both teams should be fired-up with plenty to give. Last match played the Crocs defeated the top-of-the-table Perth Wildcats in an upset, while the Hawks beat the second-ranked Breakers so both are capable of surprise victories. A playoff spot is on the line for Illawarra who have more to play for here and should salute as favourites.
Sydney Kings vs Cairns Taipans
Saturday, January 2, 7:30pm (AEST)
Little left for the Kings to play for but pride now they are last in the standings and taking on the sixth-placed Taipans at Sydney Olympic Park on Saturday night. It’s the least important of this round’s games and the second of the week for both teams with Sydney taking on Melbourne on Wednesday and Cairns playing the Breakers on Thursday. The results of those games will affect these odds, but little doubt the Taipans will start favourites after their Round 11 win over Perth and their week 12 rest.
