The biggest race day for the calendar year in Queensland is upon us this Saturday afternoon as the sunny Gold Coast Turf Club plays host to a truly fantastic card of racing.

Our full 2022 Magic Millions Day Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 12:15pm

Magic Millions Maiden Plate (1200m)

Ambitious Spirit has been runner up at both his starts so far in his short career including a narrow defeat as the favourite at this track and distance last time out.

The lightly raced four year old gelding will wear the blinkers for the first time and has found good early support in betting suggesting he will run well.

Race 2 - 12:50pm

Magic Millions Open (1800m)

The Chris Waller trained Big Boy Roy has been placed in two of his three runs so far this prep and 21 of 28 overall.

He has proven a bit of a non winner throughout his career but he looks really well placed in a race like this.

The step up to 1800m shouldn’t be an issue and Kerrin McEvoy will steer from barrier four.

Race 3 - 1:25pm

Magic Millions Sub Zero (2400m)

Fun Fact gets out to a more suitable distance having missed a place at his last three in a row.

The six year old gelding has been up for a long time so fitness should not be an issue and I’m confident he has a class edge over the majority of this field on his day.

His runs in both the Summer and January Cups were full of merit and he will be peaking at this stage in his prep.

Magic Millions Fillies And Mares (1300m)

I have quite a big opinion of the Tony Gollan trained Salateen who has gone from strength to strength every time she has stepped up in grade..

The daughter of I Am Invincible is a very progressive type of mare who can handle all surfaces and will a bit of luck from the awkward barrier, she will be climbing over the top of them late in the race.

She is one of the better each way plays of the day.

Race 5 - 2:35pm

Magic Millions Snippets (1200m)

The Tony Gollan trained Baller has put together three placings from three runs so far this prep including and narrow defeat behind Roheryn last start.

He has five wins over 1200m from 12 career starts and has missed a place only three times at this distance.

He should be ready to peak at this stage in his prep and he represents good each way value at his current price for the Magic Millions Snippets.

Race 6 - 3:15pm

Magic Millions Cup (1400m)

Nudge has just the four wins to her name from 26 career race starts but she has been a consistent performer at this level for quite a while now.

The daughter of Fastnet Rock was second to Count De Rupee in The Gong and six weeks later finished third behind Salateen in at Listed level at Doomben.

Chris Waller has kept the mare ticking over well this prep and the 1400m of the Magic Millions Cup looks ideal for her with James McDonald steering.

Race 7 - 4:00pm

Magic Millions Classic (1200m)

Coolangatta has been near perfect in her two race starts to date, winning both with a leg in the air.

The daughter of Written Tycoon didn’t have it all her own way at Doomben when she was pressured right throughout the run but she showed her turn of foot to put them away inside the last 200m.

It’s clear to me that she has a significant class edge on the rest of these young horses and with even luck she will be winning the Magic Millions 2YO Classic.

Race 8 - 4:45pm

Magic Millions Guineas (1400m)

The local filly Me Me Lagarde has shown she has a fair amount of ability during her short career winning three of four so far.

The Toby and Trent Edmunds trained chestnut came from a fair way back when running over the top of her rivals in the Listed Gold Edition Plate at Eagle Farm last start and at $15 she is a good each way play.

Indiscreetly is another worth an each way play at the double figure Magic Millions 3YO Guineas odds having won all three of her starts by a combined 10+ lengths.

The barrier for both these fillies is of concern but they both show untapped ability and are ready to peak in this event.

Race 9 - 5:20pm

Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m)

Miami Fleiss was excellent when scoring at Doomben first up at Listed level proving she is a quality young race mare with a fair amount of upside.

She put in an ordinary effort second up but she clearly didn’t handle the heavy 10 track that day.

Back on top of the ground, and out to 1300m where she is one from one, she looks the one to beat in the last.
