2025 Texas Open Preview

The Texas Open traces its roots back to 1922 and has seen the likes of Walter Hagen, Byron Nelson, Ben Hogan, Sam Snead and Arnold Palmer win the time-honoured affair.

While it has lost some of its lustre this century, major winners Justin Leonard, Zach Johnson, Adam Scott and Jordan Spieth have won the tournament that is now the final pre-Masters hitout.

BEST BET

HIDEKI MATSUYAMA

Nobody profiles better this week than former Masters champion Hideki Matsuyama.

Hideki has a fabulous short game ranking second in Scrambling and third in Strokes Gained: Around The Green.

Other facets of his game suit the TPC San Antonio course, ranking second in Par 5 Scoring, sixth in Approaches: 50-125 Yards and 12th in Strokes Gained: Tee To Green.

Finished Top 15 here the last two years and should challenge this weekend.

BEST VALUE

DANIEL BERGER

We are starting to see Daniel Berger return to his best with five straight Top 25 finishes including a T-2 at Phoenix.

He has not played here since 2019, when he missed the cut, but he does profile well.

He ranks 10th in Scrambling, 13th in Strokes Gained: Around The Green and 15th in Strokes Gained: Tee To Green.

This looks the right level of event for Berger to break back through.

HARRY HALL

Harry Hall has been one of the best putters on Tour this year and that puts him right in the mix.

He ranks second in Putting Average, 10th in Strokes Gained: Putting and 15th in Strokes Gained: Around The Green.

Finished Top 10 at the Sony Open this year, a key guide to this tournament.

Comes in playing well with a T-18 in Houston.

BEST ROUGHIES

JESPER SVENSSON

Jesper Svensson is the pick of the rookies with the Swede making six straight made cuts and looking right at home on the PGA Tour.

Svensson ranks fifth in Par 5 Scoring, eighth in Putting Average, ninth in Driving Distance and 14th in Strokes Gained: Putting.

Looks a very good Top 20 bet.

FRANKIE CAPAN III

Capan III has not played at all well since moving up from the Korn Ferry Tour this year, currently riding a run of four straight missed cuts.

His putting has been good though and one of his two best tournaments this year was the Sony Open.

He ranks Top 11 in Putting Average and Strokes Gained: Putting while he ranks second in Approaches: 50-125 Yards.

TOP ENGLISHMAN

HARRY HALL

There is a crack field of Englishmen lining up but very keen on Hall to win.

Tommy Fleetwood is major unders and Matt Fitzpatrick is not playing well enough.

TOP DANE

NIKLAS NORGAARD

Thorbjorn Olesen is the favourite in this market but this is a course that suits long drivers so plumping for Norgaard.
