GENESIS RUNNER (1) put the writing on the wall with a dominant win at Newcastle, and he looks good enough to cope with the pressure of stakes racing.
The 3YO colt by Gun Runner won by 2.3 lengths against open company, so it was a high-ranking win, and natural improvement should be enough to take him close against this company.
The inside draw is a huge positive. We expect him to settle handy to the speed, as he did last time out, and that should be enough to take him close. He’ll be tough to beat off the front, and if Kerrin McEvoy can get him free running in front, they might not get past him in the straight.
The $5.50 odds puts him on top of our Up and Coming Stakes predictions.

The form of PLAGIARISM (7) doesn’t appear all that impressive, but a return to form is likely on Saturday in the Up and Coming Stakes.
He has yet to win from five starts, and although not having winning form could scare off some punters, his best form is enough to put this field away at Rosehill.
His run for third at Rosehill last time out is a good form guide, and it was a tidy first-up run. He’ll only improve with that run under his belt, and he got through the choppy conditions well.
However, the improved track this week should be right up his alley. He’s better on top of the ground, and he could give Genesis Runner some company up front, which will make for interesting viewing.

HOSTWIN KING (8) had some betting support last start when running seventh at Rosehill, and the form out of that race could be franked in the San Domenico Stakes in Race 8.
It was taken out by Chilly Girl, with Blue Door in second place. It’s a strong form race, so we’re not surprised that Hostwin King didn’t figure in the finish.
However, the colt by King’s Legacy gets helped out by the weights. He carries only 53kg for Saturday’s race, which could be enough to swing the race in his favour, and the $13 odds are generous considering the weights.
