2025 The Rugby Championship Round 2 Preview

2025 The Rugby Championship Round 2 Preview

Following on from the dramatic opening round of the 2025 Rugby Championship, the second weekend of action has a lot to live up to.

After stunning the South Africans in Johannesburg, all eyes will be on the Australians wondering if they have another strong showing up their sleeve.

Meanwhile in Argentina, new world number one New Zealand will be eager to record another big win over Argentina.

Find out who we are backing in our previews below.

South Africa
vs
Australia
Sunday 1:10am – DHL Stadium
Over 55.5 Points @ $1.90
South Africa 30 – Australia 22

Last week was a phenomenal moment for Wallabies fans as they turned around a 22-0 deficit into a 38-22 win over the reigning world champions.

But that will provide only fleeting joy if they can’t carry it over into this week and produce another competitive, if not winning effort in Newlands.

You know it will have been a miserable week for the Springboks at training as they get put through their paces and a rebound in this game is incredibly likely.

There will be no shortage of tries in this game with both teams not only capable of scoring on their own, but capitalising on the opponent’s mistakes.

You just hope that the home side is not scoring a vast majority of them and Australia gets theirs, but it is a sign of progress for the Aussies that the Springboks are not a value add for a SGM in this market.

Instead, backing the over looks like the best bet for this game.

Sunday 7:10am – Estadio Jose Amalfitani
New Zealand to Win by 13+ @ $2.05
Argentina 29 – New Zealand 23

It was a winning selection last weekend so let’s run it back for Round 2 as the Rugby Championship returns to Buenos Aires.

With the rain forecast in the area we could see a slightly heavy track that will slow down the play just a little bit, but not enough to curb the attacking intent of the visitors.

There was a lot to like about the way the All Blacks flew out of the blocks last week, building a comfortable 31-10 lead by halftime before briefly getting pulled back in the second half before finishing with a flourish.

A lot of the same logic for last week’s choice carries over here, with the All Blacks borderline unstoppable in Argentina and you just know they have been hearing the talk that they might be vulnerable.

With two weeks to prepare for South Africa coming to town next up, look for the visitors to make a statement here.
