The Thousand Guineas is run over 1600m at Caulfield Racecourse for three-year-old fillies under set weights conditions.
The Group 1 race was first run in 1946 and has been won by some champion fillies, including Wenona Girl (1960), Alinghi (2004) and Miss Finland (2006).
Despite there being a dominant favourite in the 2005 edition of the race, we have a cracking field of fillies, and we’ve gone through every runner below in an attempt to find you the winner.
1. Apocalyptic (4) – Michael Freedman

Odds: $2.05 (at time of publish)
This daughter of Extreme Choice had just one start as a two-year-old when narrowly defeated at Randwick over 1100m and was not seen during the autumn.
This patience has paid off because she has come out and won all three of her starts this spring at just her second preparation, culminating in a last start victory in the Group 1 Flight Stakes.
On exposed form alone she looks the most likely winner of this race, and the only concern is that she is being asked to peak again at her fourth run of a very short racing career.
2. Ferivia (3) – Phillip Stokes

Odds: $14 (at time of publish)
A similar query to the favourite but much more pronounced is Phillip Stokes’ filly Ferivia who made her racing debut at Murray Bridge in July and is being asked to go again at her sixth run this campaign.
She is clearly a filly racing well, handling it all, and will be rock hard fit.
Drawn perfectly and is a last start winner of the Thousand Guineas Prelude.
3. Ole Dancer (5) – Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman

Odds: $5.50 (at time of publish)
Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman saddled up this daughter of Ole Kirk at Murray Bridge on debut where she brained her rivals back in March and decided to put her away for a spell.
All three runs during this prep have been promising and she was only narrowly denied in the Prelude.
Looks ready to peak now and should get a lovely run in transit from barrier five.
4. Getta Good Feeling (2) – Danny O’Brien

Odds: $10 (at time of publish)
Finally broke through for her maiden win last start after placing in all four previous goes on a race track and it was at Group 2 level!
She was cramped for room at a vital stage in the Edward Manifold but once she found clear air, she produced the quickest 200m of the race to win.
Clearly appreciated the step up to 1600m and this seems the right distance for her.
5. Zany Girl (8) – Stuart Gandy
Odds: $46 (at time of publish)
Four wins in Tasmania from six starts before heading over to the mainland where she has been competitive without winning.
Was beaten just over two lengths in the Edward Manifold and would need to improve to be any chance in a race of this quality.
6. Salty Pearl (6) – Ciaron Maher

Odds: $20 (at time of publish)
Grey filly who has placed in all, but one of her six career starts including a win here at Caulfield over 1200m to close out her last campaign in March.
She was past fit behind the barrier after a little incident and was by a bob of the head in a three-way photo finish in the Thousand Guineas Prelude.
If she can produce another effort like that, there is no reason she can’t be featured in the finish again.
7. Steel Trap (12) – Tony & Calvin McEvoy
Odds: $27 (at time of publish)
Closed out last campaign with an impressive win at Group 3 level in Adelaide and she has three wins from her seven career starts now.
She stepped up to 1400m for the first time at Sandown last start and won a benchmark 74 but this is a large rise in grade.
8. Cherish Me (1) – Ciaron Maher

Odds: $34 (at time of publish)
Two wins from five career race starts but has had three goes at Caulfield and has been unplaced on all three occasions.
First go at 1600m is another concern and I’m happy to take her on.
9. Ethereum Girl (9) – Ben, Will & JD Hayes
Odds: $21 (at time of publish)
Closed out her last campaign with a win in Adelaide’s Group 3 Sires’ Produce Stakes and was beaten 0.1 lengths in the Thousand Guineas Prelude first up.
If she can take natural improvement out of that first up run, she can feature in the finish and the step up to a mile looks ideal.
10. Karinska (7) – Chris Waller
Odds: $12 (at time of publish)
Chris Waller trained filly who won on debut at Canterbury back in January but has failed to win since.
Was a much-improved effort when finishing third to Apocalyptic in the Flight Stakes and if that is the right form, she looks a genuine chance.
11. Chateau Eze (11) – Mark Walker
Odds: $20 (at time of publish)
Started an even money favourite when making her racing debut at Benalla last month and scored by over three lengths.
The daughter of Frankel then finished second at Listed level last time out and she will appreciate the rise to 1600m.
Can she step up to this grade at just her third career start?
You will get a good price to find out!
12. Mating Call (10) – Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray
Odds: $17 (at time of publish)
Was slowly away in the Edward Manifold but she made up plenty of ground late to finish third, beaten less than half a length behind Getta Good Feeling.
She is certainly a talented filly, and she is one a big odds that could fill a place.
