The Group 1 Flight Stakes on October 4 could be on the cards for Brad Widdup’s emerging filly Savvy Hallie ($3.50) after she put together back-to-back wins with a dominant victory in the wet at Randwick to beat the fast finishing Within The Law home in the 2025 Silver Shadow Stakes results.

The Group 2 Silver Shadow Stakes is a 1200m sprint showdown for three-year-old fillies run at Royal Randwick Racecourse in August each Sydney Spring Racing Carnival. The race is run at set weights plus penalties and offers $300,000 in total prize money and was upgraded from a Group 3 race in 2013.
It is contested on Winx Stakes Day and is the key support act on the card along with the meeting’s namesake race, the recently upgraded Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) for weight-for-age gallopers that was previously known as the Warwick Stakes. The Group 3 Toy Show Quality, Group 3 Show County Quality and the Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2000m) are the other key races on the card.
The fillies contesting the Silver Shadow Stakes are usually heading towards a run against the boys in the coveted Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) run at Rosehill Gardens the following month.
In 2015 Speak Fondly won the Silver Shadow Stakes before a second in the Golden Rose to Exosphere two runs later. The Silver Shadow Stakes form also held-up in 2017 when the winner Omei Sword finished second to Astern in that year’s Golden Rose Stakes results.
More recently in 2022 the Silver Shadow runner-up In Secret ran second in that year’s Golden Rose.
The Silver Shadow Stakes is also the opening leg of the Princess Series of races during the spring for three-year-old fillies.
The second leg is the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Randwick a fortnight later followed by the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and finally the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m) in early October.
Speak Fondly achieved the Silver Shadow Stakes – Furious Stakes double and also won the Flight Stakes in 2015 after her Golden Rose second. Other recent winners of the Silver Shadow Stakes – Flight Stakes double include Samantha Miss (2008), Ha Ha (2001) and Zougotcha (2022).
In 2020 Dame Giselle completed the Silver Shadow Stakes – Furious Stakes – Tea Rose Stakes treble, but only managed to run fourth in that year’s Flight Stakes.
In 2018 the Silver Shadow Stakes winner Fiesta went on to run second in both the Tea Rose Stakes and the Flight Stakes. The 2019 Silver Shadow Stakes – Furious Stakes double was achieved by Libertini who also ran third in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington that November.
Zougotcha (2022) was the last filly to complete the Silver Shadow Stakes – Tea Rose Stakes double before her Group 1 Flight Stakes success.

Really hard to knock the deserving and undefeated favourite AGARWOOD (6) who is one proven on Heavy going ahead of a likely wet track edition of the Silver Shadow. This two-time winning daughter of Wootton Bassett went back-to-back in May to win her opening two career starts at Warwick Farm and Randwick by a combined margin of nearly five lengths. She was outstanding on a Heavy (9) at this track and trip last time out when easily accounting for her rivals so is also proven at the six-furlongs. Two subsequent winning trials show she’s fit, firing and ready for a Group test now.
