1. Colette (9)
- Record: 24: 8-5-0
- Distance: 9: 2-2-0
- Track: 10: 3-2-0
- Trainer: James Cummings
- Jockey: James McDonald
- Odds: $3.90
Started her campaign with a second in the Chipping Norton and ran into a white hot Forbidden Love in the George Ryder last time out. Will be ready to peak at her fourth run in and relishes the heavy track. One of the leading chances.
2. Lighthouse (12)
- Record: 18: 8-5-1
- Distance: 2: 0-0-0
- Track: 2: 0-1-0
- Trainer: C Maher & D Eustace
- Jockey: Jamie Kah
- Odds: $11
She has a fantastic overall winning record of eight wins from 18 career starts including the Group 1 Coolmore Classic two back at Rosehill. Loves it wet and has the benefit of Jamie Kah steering. Looks value at the double figure odds.
3. Icebath (15)
- Record: 30: 4-7-5
- Distance: 7: 1-2-1
- Track: 17: 2-3-4
- Trainer: B Widdup
- Jockey: K McEvoy
- Odds: $4.80
May not have had a better chance to win a Group 1 and she’s had a few. Rocketed home in the Doncaster last weekend and is a swimmer. Is this the race she breaks her Group 1 duck?
4. Shout The Bar (10)
- Record: 17: 5-1-1
- Distance: 7: 2-1-0
- Track: 6: 0-0-0
- Trainer: G Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
- Jockey: Nash Rawiller
- Odds: $26
Couldn’t have been much more impressive when winning the Group 2 Sunline Stakes at The Valley last start by four lengths. The heavy track is a major concern.
5. Hungry Heart (11)
- Record: 18: 4-4-1
- Distance: 5: 0-1-1
- Track: 11: 2-3-0
- Trainer: Chris Waller
- Jockey: Mark Zahra
- Odds: $31
Another that is unproven on the heavy track but she is a quality race mare. Was beaten just under four lengths in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes behind Think It Over first up but will take benefit out of that run. Her best is good enough to be really competitive back to her own sex.
6. Nimalee (3)
- Record: 21: 6-5-1
- Distance: 7: 1-2-1
- Track: 2: 0-0-1
- Trainer: M Smith
- Jockey: D Oliver
- Odds: $26
Beaten less than a length behind Promise Of Success in the Emancipation but is that the right form line for this race? Time will tell.
7. Promise Of Success (4)
- Record: 14: 4-4-2
- Distance: 1: 0-0-0
- Track: 3: 1-2-0
- Trainer: John O’Shea
- Jockey: Hugh Bowman
- Odds: $13
Was knocking on the door of a black type race throughout this prep and broke through in the Emancipation last start at Newcastle. She possesses a great turn of foot and has drawn to get a gun run from barrier four.
8. Vangelic (13)
- Record: 20: 2-3-5
- Distance: 3: 0-0-1
- Track: 10: 2-3-0
- Trainer: Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott
- Jockey: Tim Clark
- Odds: $41
Another coming through the Emancipation form line where she was beaten half a length. She would need a career best performance to win the race.
9. Annavisto (6)
- Record: 14: 6-2-2
- Distance: 1: 0-0-1
- Track: 0: 0-0-0
- Trainer: M Price & M K Junior
- Jockey: Rcahel King
- Odds: $18
Was dominant when winning the Group 3 Tressady Stakes at Flemington by over three lengths two back and wasn’t beaten far in the Emancipation in a blanket finish. The tempo of the race is important and Rachel King can give her a nice run from the good draw.
10. Quantum Mechanic (14)
- Record: 26: 4-5-7
- Distance: 16: 3-3-6
- Track: 1: 0-0-1
- Trainer: M Price & M K Junior
- Jockey: D Lane
- Odds: $34
The second runner for Mick Price and Michael Kent Junior who has not been within five lengths of the winner in both runs this prep. Would need to improve dramtically.
11. Mirra Vision (2)
- Record: 23: 7-3-0
- Distance: 2: 1-0-0
- Track: 9: 2-0-0
- Trainer: P & P Snowden
- Jockey: S Clipperton
- Odds: $61
Second behind Lighthouse in the Coolmore and repeat of that effort would see her go close in this. Record on the heavy track is poor beside that however.
12. Steinem (17)
- Record: 9: 3-1-1
- Distance: 3: 2-0-0
- Track: 0: 0-0-0
- Trainer: C Maher & D Eustace
- Jockey: Tommy Berry
- Odds: $21
Returned a really nice effort in the Group 3 Birthday Card at Rosehill despite being well beaten by Emanate. The daughter of Frankel is capable of producing a rating good enough to run well at nice each way odds.
13. Le Lude (18)
- Record: 33: 5-4-4
- Distance: 6: 1-1-0
- Track: 6: 2-0-1
- Trainer: J Thompson
- Jockey: B Ryan
- Odds: $81
Absolutely smashed them in the Group 3 Aspiration Quality two back but was well beaten last time out, finishing over eight lengths from the winner Monegal. If she can get a soft time in front she may take some catching. $81 is a huge price!
14. Yonce (1)
- Record: 6: 6-0-0
- Distance: 2: 2-0-0
- Track: 0: 0-0-0
- Trainer: C Maher & D Eustace
- Jockey: John Allen
- Odds: $7
Her win at Flemington two back, albeit in a much easier race, was the sign of a good horse. She was pocketed away but weaved through the field to win with a leg in the air. She’s unbeaten in six career starts and is the horse to beat in my opinion.
15. Fangirl (16)
- Record: 9: 5-0-1
- Distance: 1: 1-0-0
- Track: 3: 2-0-0
- Trainer: Chris Waller
- Jockey: Brenton Avdulla
- Odds: $11
Broke through for a Group 1 win in the Vinery Stud Stakes at Newcastle last time out when she narrowly defeated the very smart filly Hinged who contests the Oaks. She oozes quality but this is another step up in class for her. Looks each way value at the double figure odds.
16. Yearning (7)
- Record: 11: 2-2-1
- Distance: 3: 1-1-0
- Track: 2: 0-0-0
- Trainer: W, W, J Hawkes
- Jockey: William Pike
- Odds: $41
The Group 1 Thousand Guineas winner is yet to win in three starts this prep and was a touch disappointing in the Vinery Stud Stakes. She has plenty of class and I wouldn’t be surprised if she bounces back.
17. Barb Raider (8)
- Record: 9: 4-2-2
- Distance: 4: 2-1-1
- Track: 0: 0-0-0
- Trainer: J Hunter
- Jockey: Craig Williams
- Odds: $31
Put together back to back wins to start this campaign in Melbourne and found just one better at The Valley last start. Has missed a place just once in her short nine start career. Another that wouldn’t surprise at a big price.
18. Never Been Kissed (5)
- Record: 8: 3-2-0
- Distance: 1: 1-0-0
- Track: 4: 1-1-0
- Trainer: G Waterhouse & A Bott
- Jockey: R Bayliss
- Odds: $34
One of four fillies in the race this year and although she too will need to go to another level, she is a capable race horse in her own right.
