The G1 Ladbrokes Doomben 10000 takes centre stage this Saturday at Doomben, headlining a blockbuster day of racing.

As the first G1 event of this year’s Stradbroke Season, it sets the tone for an action-packed program featuring nine races, including five other black-type contests.

Unfortunately, we’re going to be confronted with yet another wet track.

I’m particularly keen on the chances of an import having his first Australian start in the G3 JRA Chairman’s Handicap.

I’ve highlighted my top betting picks for each race below to help you navigate the action on Ladbrokes Doomben 10000 Day.

Race 1 - 11:48am AEST

BENCHMARK 85 Handicap (1600 METRES)

Victory Win (1) will appreciate dropping back to a mile after giving a sight over 1835m and weakening late to finish 1.3 lengths fifth in a stronger race at Eagle Farm last start.

The Annabel & Rob Archibald-trained gelding loves this course and distance having won three from four over it.

That includes two starts ago in this grade where despite racing three-wide, he let down strongly to win by a neck.

In form jockey Jamie Mott takes the ride and should give his mount every chance from the nice draw.

I really like the chances of Victory Win starting our Ladbrokes Doomben 10000 Day in style, I mean it’s right there in the name!

2 Units – Victory Win (1)

Race 2 - 12:23pm AEST

BENCHMARK 78 Handicap (1350 METRES)

Deep Respect (2) returned in great order last start over 1200m at Eagle Farm and looks set for a big preparation.

The Kelly Schweida-trained son of Deep Field fought bravely but just couldn’t get past Ser Joh and finished a nose second with 1.5 lengths to third.

He’ll strip fitter second-up and loves this course and distance having won three of five starts over it.

Jag Guthmann-Chester should be able to settle in a prominent position from the inside barrier.

1 Unit – Deep Respect (2)

Race 3 - 12:58PM AEST

QTIS 3YO PLATE (1350 METRES)

Pisces (1) is extremely well placed in this 3YO Plate given the set weight conditions of the race.

The James Cummings-trained gelding got too far back last start in the G3 Hawkesbury Guineas before charging home to finish 2.8 lengths fourth and it was a similar situation the start prior in the Listed Daybreak Lover at Eagle Farm.

James McDonald is back in the saddle and was aboard the last time he won.

On that occasion ‘J Mac’ settled closer than normal on him in the G3 Blue Sapphire Stakes before he let down strongly to win easily.

The world’s best jockey will hopefully employ the same tactics from the good draw.

1 Unit – Pisces (1)

Race 4 - 1:33PM AEST

LISTED BERNBOROUGH HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

Al Mubhir (2) improved significantly last start over 1500m at Randwick in his first start for the Archibald stable.

The import didn’t do a great deal when with William Haggas in the G1 Ranvet Stakes and the G1 Doncaster Mile but produced a super effort over 1500m at Randwick where despite racing three-wide the trip he fought gamely to finish third.

He’s a Listed winner in the UK and has won twice over a mile.

James McDonald replaces the apprentice and should give him a sweet run from barrier 2.

1 Unit – Al Mubhir (2)

Race 5 - 2:08PM AEST

G2 SPIRIT OF BOOM CLASSIC (1200 METRES)

Grafterburners (1) returns to the races for the first time since winning the QTIS 2YO Jewel in impressive fashion.

The Kelly Schweida-trained Graff colt started from the car park but produced a dazzling turn of foot to blast past his rivals and win the Gold Coast 1200m contest by a length.

He warmed up for this with a trial win where he found the line powerfully under his own steam and looked to have a lot more to give.

There looks to be good speed in the race which will aid his cause in winning this year’s Spirit Of Boom Classic

1 Unit Each Way – Grafterburners (1)

Race 6 - 2:43PM AEST

G3 JRA CHAIRMAN'S HANDICAP (2000 METRES)

Sir Delius (1) is an import that is resuming and having his first start for the Waterhouse & Bott stable in the G3 JRA Chairman’s Handicap.

The son of Frankel has looked good winning two trials with the most recent seeing him being given a good hit out that will prime him for a bold first-up showing.

He won on debut over a similar distance and has won at G3 and placed at G2 level in France.

Tim Clark is the best front running jockey in the business so he’s a great booking for this horse.

2 Units – Sir Delius (1)

Race 7 - 3:22PM AEST

LISTED BRIGHT SHADOW (1110 METRES)

In Flight (2) has come back this preparation in great form with back-to-back runner-up finishes.

The Joe Pride-trained mare tried hard first-up at Canterbury when finishing a half-length second before working home strongly in the heavy conditions to miss the win by a nose in the Listed Gold Rush at Hawkesbury.

She loves wet tracks having won three of five starts on heavy going and has won third-up before.

Jason Collett can take advantage of the good barrier and settle in a handy position.

2 Units – In Flight (2)

Race 8 - 4:02PM AEST

G1 LADBROKES DOOMBEN 10,000 (1200 METRES)

This is a cracking edition of the G1 Ladbrokes Doomben 10000 and I’m happy to be with Benedetta (14).

The Jason Warren-trained mare rarely runs a bad race and has been racing well this preparation despite having some luck issues.

She resumed with a third in the G1 Black Caviar Lightning before having no luck in the G1 Newmarket Handicap second-up.

Her run in the G1 William Reid was excellent given she stormed home on a day when the track favoured on-pacers to finish a length second.

It’s been four weeks since she found the line strongly once clear to finish 2.7 lengths fifth in the G1 All Aged Stakes, so she’s had a trial to keep things ticking over which produced an excellent piece of work.

There looks to be an abundance of speed in the race which plays into her hands.

1 Unit – Benedetta (14)

Race 9 - 4:38PM AEST

G3 ROUGH HABIT PLATE (2000 METRES)

Firm Agreement (1) has been racing in great form in stronger races and looks close to a win.

The Annabel & Rob Archibald-trained son of Yes Yes Yes was unlucky not to win the G2 Tulloch Stakes three starts back before chasing strongly despite being no match for Aeliana when second in the G1 Australian Derby

He’s had a tick over trial since taking ground off Shangri La Spring when finishing just under a length second in the G3 Frank Packer Plate.

A wet track won’t faze him and if he’s close enough entering the straight, he’ll take some holding out in the Rough Habit to close the Doomben 10,000 Day card.

1 Unit – Firm Agreement (1)
