Morphettville will play host to an exciting nine race program this Saturday, with not one, but six black type races to be run.
The feature events are both at Group Three level with the Irwin Stakes and Auraria Stakes to follow on from four Listed contests.
There’s no shortage of quality throughout the card and we’re set for a terrific day of racing.
The rail will be out 9m from the 1200m to the winning post and 5m for the remainder.
The track is currently rated a good 4 and with no rain expected, it’s set to stay that way.
We’ve had a close look at all nine races on the program and our thoughts can be found below.
Race 1 - 12:47pm AEST
HANDICAP (2500 METRES)
Nishino Crescent has been racing well and comes off a solid effort in BM80 grade.
After beginning his career in Japan, the son of Satono Aladdin has continued to perform well and the way he’s been finding the line certainly suggests that the rise to 2500m will suit.
He has been placed over 2400m back in his homeland but Henry Dwyer has taken his time to build him up to this trip and make sure he’s fully fit.
Will Price takes the mount and with just 54kgs on his back, there’s a lot to like about him here.
1 unit – NISHINO CRESCENT
Race 2 - 1:22pm AEST
SKYCITY WITHOUT FEAR STAKES 2YO SW LISTED (1050 METRES)
Trembles is one of several runners to make her debut here.
A daughter of Blue Diamond winner Earthquake, the well named Godolphin filly has impressed in a handful of jump outs, particularly her most recent, where she cruised up alongside them to win the heat without being asked for an effort.
Her prior jump out, over 800m she was taken back and worked up strongly in behind the likes of Golden Slipper runner up Coleman.
She looks ready to go and Jason Holder will do the steering for Anthony and Sam Freedman.
1 unit – TREMBLES
Race 3 - 1:57pm AEST
ADELAIDE RACING CARNIVAL HANDICAP 0-68 (1600 METRES)
Rampant Lion is in good form and comes off a terrific win over the mile at Pakenham.
Whilst there was only a head in it, the performance was full of merit as he was always wide and came from the tail.
A dual stakes placegetter having contested the Maribyrnong trial and Blue Diamond Prelude at his first two starts, the son of Frankel has always displayed good ability but has since spent quite a lot of time of the sidelines.
He’s now saluted at two of his four starts this time in and the team look to have him in top order.
Tom Stockdale has partnered him at his last three outings, he stays in the saddle for Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman and can afford him every chance from gate four.
1 unit – RAMPANT LION
Race 4 - 2:32pm AEST
THE FOTOBASE GROUP REDELVA STAKES 3YO SW LISTED (1100 METRES)
Stretan Angel comes off a terrific first up effort in the Listed Sunlight Classic.
Hampered at the start and then again at the 600m mark she still travelled well and fought strongly over the final part finish fourth against some quality gallopers.
The Harry Angel filly has only had the six race starts and has performed well on each occasion.
She recorded her maiden win here in the Listed Dequetteville Stakes this time last year and proved too strong in the Group Two Danehill Stakes in the spring.
She looks to have returned in top in top order and will have taken good benefit from that first up run as she remains unbeaten in two second up appearances.
Lachlan Neindorf takes the mount for Phillip Stokes and she gets the advantage of the inside draw.
1 unit – STRETAN ANGEL
Race 5 - 3:07pm AEST
THOMAS FARMS CITY OF ADELAIDE HANDICAP LISTED (1527 METRES)
Party Princess has hit the line strongly in both starts since resuming and she’ll relish the rise in trip here.
She kicked off her campaign in the City of Marion Stakes where she was held up for most of the straight but charged home late once clear.
At her following outing, again over the 1200m she was doing her best work late to claim second behind a dominant winner.
A daughter of So You Think, she took out the Listed Adelaide Guineas over the mile last Autumn and she looks beautifully placed here up to 1527m at her third run back.
Jason Holder has been aboard for all three of her wins, he knows her well and will again do the steering for Andrew Gluyas.
1 unit – PARTY PRINCESS
Race 6 - 3:47pm AEST
HAHN PORT ADELAIDE GUINEAS 3YO SW LISTED (1800 METRES)
Air Assault lines up here off back to back wins.
The Justify gelding was solid through the line, despite the wide run, when resuming over the 1200m here in February and he relished the step up to mile at his following outing.
Off the outside gate he was allowed to roll to the front and showed a strong kick in the straight to hold out the challengers and take out the Listed Morphettville Guineas.
Last start he again took up the running and the result was the same.
A winner of the Listed Hill Smith Stakes over this course and distance back in October, he’ll relish the rise to 1800m and he gets in beautifully at the set weights.
From the inside draw he’s set to receive all the favours under Jason Holder, who sticks with him
2 units – AIR ASSAULT
Race 7 - 4:27pm AEST
AURARIA STAKES 3YO FILLIES SW GROUP 3 (1800 METRES)
Quickster comes here in red hot form.
After recording her maiden win at her second run back from a break she jumped straight back in the deep end and proved too strong in the Listed Clare Lindop Stakes.
Only lightly raced, the Shamus Award filly was only beaten by a narrow margin on debut and then contested the Fillies Classic and Caulfield Guineas where she didn’t have much luck on either occasion.
Highly talented, she comes here with her confidence high and the rise to 1800m looks ideal here in the Auraria Stakes.
Will Price steered her to victory last start and he retains the ride for the Moody / Coleman combination.
1 unit – QUICKSTER
Race 8 - 5:02pm AEST
R N IRWIN STAKES WFA GROUP 3 (1100 METRES)
Benedetta hasn’t been far away in two runs back this campaign, both of which have been at Group One level.
The Hellbent mare resumed in the Oakleigh Plate where she was held up at a vital stage but charged home late to just miss third.
She then stepped out in the Newmarket Handicap where she was again strong to the line to finish in a photo for the minors.
A winner of six from twelve, she’s yet to finish out of the top four and is as honest as they come.
With five weeks since that last run, she looks beautifully placed here over the 1100m fresh.
Daniel Stackhouse has formed a great association with the mare, having partnered her on nice occasions and he goes back aboard.
1 unit – BENEDETTA
Race 9 - 5:40pm AEST
GRAND SYNDICATES HANDICAP BM68 (1200 METRES)
Prarie Flower comes off a gallant effort in the Listed Matrice Stakes.
Never on the track, the Star Turn mare still powered home late to finish less than a length off the runner up.
The start prior, she recorded a well deserved victory here after racing consistently throughout her preparation.
Boasting a very good record here at Morphettville, she has again been transferred back to the David Jolly yard.
She presents hard fit and will appreciate the drop back in grade.
Maggie Collett goes onboard, she’ll take 2kgs off and from the low draw she’s set to enjoy a cosy run.
1 unit – PRARIE FLOWER
